We have a policy of no auditions, but we do ask for some musical knowledge. Music reading is useful but not essential, and we do provide access to on-line learning tracks so that members can practice at home if they wish. Of more importance is enthusiasm and commitment to the Choir. We have a very diverse repertoire, everything from classsical to pop, which we think is a good balance. Regular attendance is expected, particularly as we get nearer to the concerts. Our first two rehearsals in each term art free to new members, on a ‘try us out’ basis. Dates below.
The annual subscription is £100.00 and is payable by 30th September. Subscriptions may be paid half yearly for £50.00 each term. This is excellent value at around £3 a session, including music. However, we do not want to exclude prospective members on ability to pay, and in the case of genuine financial hardship (or for those in full time education) we will discuss individual cases with the Treasurer.
Rehearsals: We meet on Mondays 7:30 – 9:30 during our two annual terms at the Bridport United Church Hall, East Street (see dates below). Entrance to the side of the church. Please make every effort to attend rehearsals regularly. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal, it would be appreciated if you would inform the Secretary. If, for any reason, you are unable to continue singing for the season, please let the Committee know and return any music to the Librarian.
Concert Dress: Concert dress for women is full length black skirt or trousers (to touch shoes) jade green blouse (obtained from BCS – subsidised price £15.) Black shoes and tights. For men, dress is a black dinner suit, white shirt, jade green bow tie (supplied by BCS), black socks and shoes.
Music: Members should use a black folder to hold paper music at the concerts. All music supplied to members is the property of BCS or is on loan. New/additional music will be supplied each week. You are responsible for keeping music safely, until immediately after the concert, when it is returned to BCS. Please only mark up in soft pencil and erase all marks before returning music. Photocopying of music is not allowed as it infringes copyright and is therefore illegal! You may use your own music as long as it is the same musical arrangement. All music must be returned if you resign from BCS.
We have two terms every year. We rehearse 7:30 – 9:30 during these terms on Mondays at Bridport United Church Hall. We rehearse every Monday during these sessions including bank holidays EXCEPT Easter Monday.
